This Game Pak is about the physical size of one of Tony Hawk's elbow scabs, but it's stuffed to the gills with fresh tricks, stratospheric air and monstrous gaps. With 13 pro riders and seven courses to conquer, Pro Skater 2 greatly improves on the original Game Boy version of Pro Skater. On top of tighter play control, the addition of specific objectives to complete on each course makes the gameplay experience much closer to its big-screen counterpart. Pro Skater 2 features two main modes of play: Career Mode and Free Skate. Free Skate lets you tear through any course without worrying about a time limit, and Career Mode challenges you to earn cash by busting tricks, gathering items and performing specific tasks. In The Hanger, for example, you can earn $500 by pulling off five grind tricks on a helicopter blade. As you earn money, you can afford to buy better boards from the skate shop. Each pro has to work his or her way up the ranks individually, eventually unlocking new levels and entering competitions. Progress is saved via password. The courses in Pro Skater 2 are designed to encourage the execution of crazy combos. Almost everything is grindable, and if you're creative you'll find big gaps lurking in unlikely places. Each skater has three signature moves, which are executed by entering a specific button combination - and these combinations are the same regardless of the skater, so you won't have to crowd your brain with too many button patterns.
