Old school vertical scrolling shooting action that proves as sublimely playable today as when it first appeared on the NES back in the eighties - that's Xevious. The Earth has been invaded by fleet after plasma-death spitting fleet of extraterrestrial aggro-merchants; far from panicking, the authorities have seen fit to combat this life-as-we-know-it threatening menace by sending one modestly armed craft - piloted by your good self, natch - to save the day. Climb aboard your fighter, the Solvalou, and eradicate the airborne alien menace while attempting to obliterate the ground-based intergalactic interlopers with a well-placed bomb. You'll need to be fleet of thumb as you take out the alien formation, and keeping your nerve as you try to blast alien motherships clean out of the sky is a must. Keep an eye out for the hidden Sol Citadels; take out these silo style structures for maximum pointage. It's also worth searching for the special flags that are hidden across the game's landscape - grab one and you'll accrue a welcome extra life. Just keep a cool head out there - if you fail to make it more than 70 percent across an area, you'll find yourself sent back to the start of the level - the consolation is that make it far enough, and you'll automatically start at the beginning of the next stage...
