Put your foot to the floor and compete in a cross-country race that will take you from the Golden Gate to the Empire State in Need for Speed: The Run on Wii.
Need for Speed: The Run puts you behind the wheel of some of the world’s most powerful vehicles as you assume the role of Matt – a former race car driver who is deep in debt and a target from some very unsavoury acquaintances. With nowhere to turn, Matt enters “The Run” – an illicit coast-to-coast race from San Francisco to New York.
As he takes to the open road, Matt must outrun the criminals who have him in their sights, the police trying to break up the race and other desperate drivers out to reap the financial rewards on offer for winning The Run. From dense city streets to icy mountain passes and narrow canyons, The Run will take Matt on the most exhilarating journey imaginable as he races for the ultimate prize: His life.
With more of the adrenalin-fuelled racing players have come to expect from the Need for Speed series, you’ll fight to the finish in 26 episodes that could feature one of four different types of racing challenges. In a Timed Run you’ll need to reach your destination before the seconds tick away, while Pursuit challenges you to shake the cop cars on your tail and reach your goal before they can take you down. Catch-up mode will see you ripping up the road as you bid to overtake a rival racer, while Race simply calls on you to finish as high up the rankings as possible in a field of other drivers.
In every race, your driving skills will determine how much Bounty you earn. Bounty is a score measured in dollars and will increase as you perform skilled manoeuvres like driving at top speed, drifting round bends or evading cops. The more Bounty you earn the more in-game content you’ll unlock, opening access to new cars, racing challenges and customisation options.
Each race could also throw up Heroic Events at any moment. These events call on you to follow on-screen prompts and press the +Control Pad or Nunchuk Control Stick in a specific sequence to perform a spectacular stunt. Get it right and you’ll remain on track for victory, get it wrong and your precious car is about to become a write-off. And with five classes of stunning cars on offer, including classic, sports and super cars, writing any of them off is something you’ll be keen to avoid.
Adding to the high-octane thrills, Need for Speed: The Run supports up to four players for split-screen racing. Choose to compete in a SPRINT for a conventional race to the finish against friends, or make things even more personal in COPS VS RACERS – a team-based game mode in which you can choose to try and evade friends as they give chase or attempt to take them out on behalf of the law.
