In a city where conformity is king and colour is being drained from every corner, only one hero is bright enough to put things right. He goes by the name of Blob, and with your help he’s about to enlighten the sinister INKT Corporation to the error of their grey ways.
In de Blob 2 for Wii, the once-vibrant Prisma City is being turned into a drab dwelling place where music is muted, food has no flavour and all the best television programmes are only shown in black and white. Playing as mischievous prankster Blob, it’s up to you to lead the resistance and spark a revolution against the minions of the INKT Corporation and their banal leader, Comrade Black.
Picking up where its award-winning predecessor left off, de Blob 2 is packed with puzzle-solving platform action spread across 12 environments – including new 2D sections that hearken back to classic games of the past. At every turn, Blob’s moves can be put to work to paint the town with a new palette as he completes challenges and erases the ranks of the INKT Corporation with a little help from new power-ups like the Wrecking Ball and environment-altering Transform Engine.
At the heart of everything Blob does is the power of colour, and to fuel his archaic antics you’ll need to earn Paint Points by entering colour pools and targeting Paintbots. Doing so means Blob will be able to unleash crushing charge attacks and thumb his nose at gravity with a spot of wall running and wall jumping. Be careful though, every move costs Paint Points, as does taking hits from the bad guys. And when the Paint Points dry up, it’s game over!
To help keep Blob in the pink, upgrades can be bought from the in-game store in exchange for a currency called “inspiration”. This inspiration, earned as you play, can be spent to increase Blob’s size, upgrade his armour, lower the number of Paint Points certain actions use up and boost the paint capacity of his sidekick, Pinky.
Like Blob, Pinky is a fully paid-up member of the resistance against INKT, and in de Blob 2 she can be controlled throughout the adventure by a second player. Pointing at the screen with the Wii Remote, player 2 can use Pinky’s powers to fire paint at enemies, rescue Blob from tight spots and assist in restoring colour to Prisma City. Pinky is also playable in Blob Party – a split-screen mode in which two players compete to earn the highest colour energy score possible whilst undertaking special missions.
Grab a friend and breathe life and colour back into Prisma City before the INKT Corporation’s actions blot the landscape forever. In de Blob 2 for Wii, only your colourful outlook can save the day!
